CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

aWhen you feel tingling or a sensation as if asleep the fingers are suffering with symptoms that indicate the nerves.

When are concerned the first three fingers (thumb, index and middle finger) can be treated carpal tunnel syndrome.

To confirm the diagnosis performed two studies:

Electromyogram with conduction velocity that shows if the median nerve (this is) is affected as anatomic level.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging which is a kind of photo that we accurately describe the state of the tunnel in question.

The carpal tunnel is in the front or the wrist flexor and is bounded by the carpal bones on one side, forming a channel and the other by a ligament (annular carpal).

In this network are the flexor tendons and median nerve.

When this nerve compression suffers from some at this level gives symptoms of tingling that I mentioned.

The causes are usually caused thickening of the annular ligament repetitive strain of the wrist (tennis, golf, baseball), and sequels of some fractures of the wrist causing calcification or bone displacement.

If left untreated, over time other symptoms such as clumsiness in the movements of the fingers and weakness in the hand while trying to grasp objects. A frequent complaint is “I drop things in hand”

Treatment with anti-inflammatory aompañados starts first with vitamin B 1, B 6 and B 12.

If no improvement is followed with fisiokinesioterapia.

If you still like some try steroid injections, I do not advise it because they can produce adhesions that complicate the treatment course.

The last resort is to go into surgery.

The operation is really simple and the symptoms usually disappear fairly quickly.

The technique involves the section of the annular ligament which acts decompressing the tunnel.

Often the need, after the surgical wound healing, rehabilitation treatment.
